Introducing Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center's newest cabin:

Hemlock

Gotta say, I'm just as surprised as you! Visited the camp today to get a better feel of the area hiking trails (very successful, btw. We found the trail head--awesome hike coming up in what, less than five days now?! o.O ) --and discovered Hemlock. I had no idea a new cabin was built over the year.

As you can see, Hemlock is very beautiful, clean, cozy--all the good attributes of Pleasant Hill's cabins.

Ladies, we just got ourselves a new home! B)

The camp has been spruced up quite a bit (not like it needed it, but you know.) Even the amphitheater benches were painted! Snazzy, huh?

View of our beloved Hickory cabin. Love that place. . .feels like a second home. Or a really good friend I see only once a year.

And last but not least, an updated-shot of the Genesis Lodge.

Sooooo. . .what do you think? I'd love to hear your feedback on the OSR's newest addition! Let's give Miss Hemlock a warm welcome.

ATT: Looking for volunteers {and special announcements}

Registration will be opening within the next week or so. For now, I'd like to officially announce a few things--

the Ball

This year we are most likely hosting Scottish Country Dancing (rather then English or a mixture of the two,) or Square Dancing. What is the overall opinion? Still waiting on getting a caller. Details to come soon.

As of now the theme is still undecided. Keep watching this spot.

>somuchplanningsolittletime<

devotions

Looking for {male} volunteers! I have at least one morning (potential) volunteer--2 more slots are open--1 for devotions and 1 for church on Sunday. Please contact me at pnogirl [at] gmail [dot] com for more details.

This year there will be a set theme for devotions. Contact Michaela at the above email address for details.

sports/recreation leaders

Again, looking for 2 or 3 guys to lead/organize sports and recreational activities. This involves planning, teamwork, leading, etc. Be creative! I'll need you to commit to posting updates on the blog and/or the Facebook group page. <ideas> Ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, hiking, soccer, baseball, fishing, camp games, etc. Time is running out--Please contact me at: pnogirl [at] gmail [dot] com.

talent Show

Co-planner Hannah Michelle will be posting in the next couple of days with openings for the 2012 Ohio Summer Rendezvous Talent Show. It has been a privilege to work with Hannah for the past three years--she knows how to have a good time. Keep watching this spot for details, and put your thinking caps on!

laser tag

Waiting to hear back from Pleasant Hill regarding laser tag--it just may be part of the all-new schedule (and will be an optional activity.) HOWEVER, there will be an extra fee. Interested? Yes? No? Trying to get the feel out.

things to remember

  1. Registration is $80 per person, covering 5 home cooked meals and two nights stay in a beautifully maintained Pleasant Hill cabin. If you are interested in a camp-sponsored sport [laser tag] there will be an extra fee.
  2. Attendee age is 14 and up--you must be homeschooled or a homeschooled graduate. Any attendee under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is also staying at the camp.
  3. Bring your parents! They have the option to pay regular registration price and stay at the camp, or there are local hotels in the area. If they would like to eat at the camp (but stay elsewhere,) they can do so for $8 per meal, per person, alla carte. Contact Michaela at: pnogirl [at] gmail [dot] com for more details.
  4. There is free wifi and cell phone service at the park
  5. Check the "tabs" at the top of the blog for last years schedule (including meals,) group pictures, camp address, and frequently asked questions. There are also a list of websites further down.
  6. Suggestions are HELPFUL. If you have ideas and/or comments regarding this event in any way, feel free to shoot me and email.

Updated Pleasant Hill camp pics!

NOTE that this was written last year...I've updated it a bit to fit this OSR's theme. ;)

Updated pictures of Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center! - enjoy, and hope everyone is getting as excited as I am!

The new room at Pleasant Hill's Genesis Lodge, (attached to the original room and separated by doors .) Its huge, beautiful, and the perfect place for dancing!
I was quite impressed
*note* we will be holding the Masquerade Ball in this room.

Another view of the Lodge's new room! Gorgeous and spacious, no?

The steps leading up to the quaint cabin area. I just love the woodsy, rustic, yet completely neat and clean feel of the whole camp!

The newest cabin at the camp - 'Hickory'. Sooo charming! *Note* that the older cabins are just a nice, and JUST as tidy!

~*~ Another view of 'Hickory' ~*~

I believe this is 'Cedar'. I love how its set in the middle of the trees...

The outdoor amphitheater where the talent show is to be held. Can't wait!

Another view of the amphitheater...oooh, the talent show is going to be a B.L.A.S.T.

~*~ more amphitheater ...

Looking back on the way to the fishing pond.

Cute little direction sign. :D

There is a short trail that leads from the cabin area to the fishing pond and some of the sports fields. I thought it was so pretty I had to take a picture!

Going back up the path toward the cabins...

The original part of the lodge. I love the piny-woodsy-homey feel.
Mmm...combine that with the aroma of brewing coffee! o.O
And just think, if its cool enough in the evenings we may be able to start the fireplace up!
(either way there will be a bonfire outside each night.)

The kitchen and buffet area. The food is incredible!

'Cedar!' (there *are* more cabins, I just didn't snap pics of them. ) ;)

Patriotic too...what more could a home schooler ask for??
(Pleasant Hill is a Christian run camp, btw.)

No caption needed...

On the Lodge deck. See the wooden cross??

Part of the old building, and a side view of the new building. Nice?!?

The front of the new building

I was trying to get a picture of the entire building, and failed, obviously. ;)
Here's an idea, nonetheless. ^_^

Another attempt...

Basket ball court. Bring your balls!

Soccer net and field...

Another soccer net...

The road down the the Mohican Lake.

The stunning lake. Here we have the option to swim (which we are passing on due to lack of a lifeguard and other things.)

The lake and dock...

Lake view...

If you have any questions, let us know! Can't wait to see you soon!

Looking for a life guard, and more suggestions/opinions!

Alright everyone - I've been working a bit on more of the details for the Rendezvous, and need some input! :)
- I know its a little time away before the event, but I'm already getting really excited!

1) would there happen to be a certified life guard amongst anyone officially attending or seriously thinking of attending? According to the park rules, the only way we can swim is if we provide our own life guard.
- if anyone could help out in that area, it would be much appreciated! :)

2) There are 13 miles worth of hiking trails in the park as well as overlooks, waterfalls, etc, etc. How many people would like to hike for part of one day?

3) The camp itself, Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center offers several extra activities for $4 extra per person. Mountain biking and canoeing are a couple options, and I'm looking into prices for rappelling. Suggestions?

4) There is a small amphitheater on property that I thought might be fun to put to use. A talent show maybe? Any other ideas? Yes, no?

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!
